A couple of Harvard students, who aimed at helping college students and administrators communicate better, originally started Facebook.  It was first launched in the Boston area, Ivy League, and Stanford University.

Facebook offers tremendous advantages over Twitter in that the user can upload pictures and video, link to interesting web content, and easily control who their friends are.  The setbacks compared to Twitter, for instance, are the learning curve and slower pace of gaining viewership.

A facebook page is a public profile that allows a business to share comments, recommended products, reviews and other items that a business might find worth displaying.  Facebook also offers advertising opportunities for those who wish to take a more proactive approach.

User groups can also be formed for those with like interests or desires.  The Facebook marketer can expand the user group to allow comments, postings, and sign-ups for events.

Facebook is quickly overtaking all other forms of online media marketing as a one-stop shop for displaying your message, brand and value proposition to a highly targeted audience.
