Indicate Page Titles by using Title Tags

A title tag tells both users and search engines what the topic or main subject of a particular page and content actually is. The <title> tag should be placed within the <head> tag of the HTML document. Ideally, you should create a unique title for each page on your site. Duplicate Title Tags can result in lower page rankings and listings.

Page title contents are displayed in search results.

If your document appears in a search results page, the contents of the title tag will usually appear in the first line of the results. Words in the title are bolded if they appear in the user's search query. This can help users recognize if the page is likely to be relevant to their search.

The title for your homepage can list the name of your website/ business

and could include other bits of important information like the physical

location of the business or maybe a few of its main focuses or offerings.

Pay special attention to the title tag and its relevance to the subject of the

page or site.  Make sure your title tag closely correlates to your <description>

of the page.  Many so called Guru's get so hung up on SEO that they

totally forget the reason to perform the magic to begin with.  What is that?

Conversion! We'll cover conversion later.

In summary, create relevant title tags that closely match the subject matter

of the site and/or page.  Think about the reader searcher.  What words are

they typing into the Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. to find you.  Do NOT use

duplicate title tags for all your pages.

Some believe Google seems to rank the first 3-4 keywords in your title tag above others.  Try it yourself and see what happens.

Don't use 2 and 3 letter words that Google largely ignores. Examples would

be; "so", if", "the", etc.

Try not to use Dynamic Title Tagging, especially for top-level categories.

It is always better to manually write each title tag if possible.
